3D has become more and more widely used in recent years. No longer the exclusive preserve of cinema, video gaming and advertising experts, it is now open to all. “As a result, our event needed to change focus to ensure that it could represent new sectors such as Architecture, Urbanism, Territory Management, Industry and the new virtual worlds that have been made available through the Internet, while retaining a special place for Media & Entertainment and its pioneering 3D work” says Laurent Puons, General Manager of imagina.

Despite a troubled economic climate, imagina 2010 looks promising, with a 10% increase in floor space combined with a 5% increase in the number of participants as well as the continued support of major businesses and key individuals working in 3D across the different sectors represented.

The new Exhibition Hall will thus provide an insight into the best possible 3D solutions and applications. The Digital City and Territory Village will showcase the latest 3D models of towns and cities attending and represents a final stage in the work which began after the 2009 event to see the official signing of the 3D Ethics Charter.    

The quality of imagina 2010’s conferences is a clear indication of the success of its progression into new markets. Further proof comes from Jean Nouvel’s keynote speech and the European first that will see James Cameron’s studio and Ubisoft share a stage for the AVATAR conference. The central theme of the Architecture conference cycle will be the use of 3D simulation in sustainable construction or Green Building, while two days of events will be dedicated to 3D modelling of towns and territories, exploring the issues involved and prospects for the future. This year, as well as examining digital mock-ups and simulation, the Industry conferences will look into 3D design and virtual prototyping. Additionally, the Media & Entertainment conferences will offer a cutting-edge analysis of three-dimensional CGI.

imagina’s new direction now allows key figures from each of the four sectors represented to share their experiences in using 3D technology.

We are pleased that the day of events dedicated to new virtual immersive worlds now occupies a significant position and features not only a round table discussion on ‘revolutionary new management practices in virtual worlds’ but also the World IntraVerse awards ceremony.
